
Authorities have released details concerning Wednesday evening’s fatal crash in Dubois County.
According to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 6:04 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash on State Road 64 west of State Road 161.
Investigators said a white Ford pickup truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and collided with a second vehicle. The second vehicle left the roadway and came to rest down an embankment.
Emergency crews found the driver of the second vehicle trapped inside. Two juvenile passengers had already been removed from the vehicle and were receiving treatment at the scene.
Authorities said the driver, identified as 36-year-old Dana Strohmeyer of Jasper, later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Family notifications have been made. The two juveniles were transported to Deaconess Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as 37-year-old Nathan P. Simpson of Evanston. During the investigation, deputies conducted standardized field sobriety tests and later obtained a search warrant for blood and urine samples.
Simpson has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death, a Level 4 felony. The sheriff’s office said additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Indiana State Police crash reconstructionists assisted at the scene along with the Huntingburg Fire Department, Deaconess EMS, and Sternberg’s Wrecker Service.
